Saturday, April 17, at The Artisans shop in McLean, Virginia
If you’re in the area, be sure to stop by and have a look at all the great gift items in the shop. The shop has generously offered to donate 10% of all proceeds (from all items) to the Kentucky Humanities Council’s (KHC) New Books for New Readers program. This is a wonderful literacy program that provides books written on the 4th grade level to adults in Appalachia who are just learning to read! I had the opportunity last week to visit with the KHC representative at a book festival and learn more about the program. The books are not only written for new readers, but they also have kept in mind the interests of adults in the region with lots of Kentucky history, traditions, customs, etc. The KHC, too, qualifies for matching funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
A good cause, a good chance to pick up something special (handmade pottery, jewelry, clothing, interesting gifts), and a good way to spend a few minutes on a sunny (or rainy) day!
