“My little son enters
the room and says
‘you are a vulture
I am a mouse’
I put away my book
wings and claws
grow out of me…”
~ Tadeusz Rozewicz (Poland)
If you have children, you’ve likely developed wings and claws on a few occasions. You may have even barked or meowed or crowed or attempted other funny or outrageous animal sounds. It’s all a part of the game.
I love animals and was looking through my photo archives today and found a few that “spoke” to me. Feel free to add your own words…

Come on in! The water is perfect.
Did you hear the one about…
Gotta find me a place in the sun…
The marine iguanas on Espanola Island change color during the mating season. This fellow was copper and aqua. This particular species is not found any place else in the world.
What’s the hurry?
This big guy weighed approx. 600 pounds. We discovered him and a number of his relatives on a hike in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island. We found poison apples and passion flowers, too, but that’s another story…
He was winking in this photo but has huge and quite spectacular golden eyes.
What do you mean you expected BLUE?
Love the “red balloon” bird. He’s all puffed up for the female circling nearby.
Hail, hail the gang’s all here…
How many sea lions do you see? It’s not easy to separate sea lion from stone.
Did you say something?
Don’t you love that splash of aqua makeup on the cheeks? Nature’s own colors are hard to copy.
Need an umbrella?
We were in a boat and this guy was waving to us. A handsome fellow, but his blood-curdling screams at daybreak come straight from the netherworld. On the positive side, there’s no need for alarm clocks.
Look at that…trying to do somersaults!
Come a little bit closer…
We stopped for tea at a little roadside shack…there were hummingbirds around the flowers, a batch of new kittens in a bushel basket, and a beautiful waterfall in the distance. And then someone brought this fellow out to meet us.
Don’t be shy! I’ll even let you drive…
We spent a couple of hours one day sitting at this marina watching the sea lions get in and out of boats. In this laid-back little port town where nothing much happens, the sea lions were a great source of entertainment.
Sometimes a place “where nothing much happens” is the best place to be. Have a great weekend!
